4 WINES TO PUT ON YOUR WISH LIST

CLOS ANCESTRAL WHITE 2022 (DO Penedès) 

• The wine makes its debut this year as one of Familia Torres’s new releases, as well as the newest ambassador of the ancestral varieties' recovery project, which began 40 years ago. Clos Ancestral White is an organic white wine from Penedès made primarily from the ancestral Forcada variety blended with a small percentage of Xarel·lo. It is surprisingly fresh and original, ideal as an aperitif or paired with seafood or salads.    
• In the glass, the wine reveals a clean, radiant, pale-yellow colour. Delicate and captivating, the nose offers a symphony of very fresh citrusy fruit aromas (lemon, grapefruit, tangerine). A lively and nervy wine, Clos Ancestral White is fresh and succulent on the palate with fine extract. Adding a small amount of Xarel·lo gives the wine herbaceous nuances – the signature of the Penedès region.

PURGATORI 2021 (DO Costers del Segre) 

• A fresh and elegant wine, Mediterranean in style despite the region’s somewhat continental tendencies. Certified organic, it hails from the Purgatori estate, located in the heart of Les Garrigues, part of the DO Costers del Segre appellation of origin.
• The wine, made primarily from Garnacha and Cariñena, has a special history: the present-day winery was once an old farmhouse where Benedictine monks made wine during the 18th century. The land here is harsh, marked by a severe climate, and the monks worked the fields as penance. According to legend, every so often large barrels of wine would mysteriously vanish, and the monks insisted it was the angels’ doing. 
• Purgatori is an elegant modern wine. Deeply pigmented and seductive on the nose, with wild berry aromas intermingling with subtle smoky undertones and echoes of dried fruit. As it unfolds and envelops the palate, the wine reveals its voluptuous side, yet the tannins are remarkably fine; potent but balanced.

MAS LA PLANA 2019 (DO Penedès) 

• Familia Torres’s flagship wine, the one that changed everything. Born in 1970 at the Mas La Plana estate, this Cabernet Sauvignon made history when the very first vintage beat the great French Bordeaux wines at the Paris Wine Olympics in 1979. 
• The 29-hectare vineyard is cultivated according to regenerative viticultural principles and practices with the aim of restoring soil fertility, encouraging biodiversity, and contributing to the fight against climate change. This exceptional wine is an elegant and captivating companion for fine recipes and the perfect gift for wine lovers. 
• The 2019 vintage is the product of a dry year, with higher-than-normal temperatures and a very hot summer, which brought down yields and accentuated the wine’s Mediterranean character and concentration. After a meticulous selection of only the finest grapes, each parcel is fermented separately in stainless steel or oak foudres with very gentle extraction. The wine then ages in French oak barrels and 30-hectolitre foudres for 18 months. Mas La Plana is a blend of small lots of Cabernet Sauvignon that seeks the most elegant expression of the variety. The result is a wine worthy of a gala dinner.

CUVÉE ESPLENDOR 2015 BY VARDON KENNETT

• This vintage sparkling wine with delicate bubbles originates from winery-owned, high-altitude vineyards. Made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and a small percentage of Xarel·lo, the wine is surprisingly fresh and elegant, but aged long enough to acquire the complexity of a great champagne. 
• Vardon Kennett is a project initiated and helmed by the fifth generation of Familia Torres and pays tribute to Daniel Vardon Kennett, a British seafaring merchant who navigated the oceans during the early 19th century. But then he fell in love and decided to change course, swapping the high seas for the Penedès where he began making his own wines in the masía that now houses the modern-day winery.
• The delicate bubbles are an effervescent caress of the palate and ear, stimulating the nose and charming the eye with their sparkling radiance and constant stream of poetic spherical perfection. Cuvée Esplendor appeals to all of our senses at once, making it the kind of wine that will linger in our memory. An unforgettable delight.
